Packing is the part of moving that everyone dreads. It takes forever, it’s tedious, and if you rush it, things get broken. Most people underestimate how long it takes to pack a house — a typical 3-bedroom home takes 20 to 30 hours to pack properly. That’s an entire long weekend spent wrapping dishes, boxing books, and trying to figure out how to protect that mirror without it shattering.

Austin Moving Company offers professional packing and unpacking services for homes and apartments throughout Austin. Our packing crew uses high-quality boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, and specialty containers to protect your belongings for the move. We pack efficiently and carefully — most homes can be fully packed in a single day.

And when you get to your new home, we’ll unpack everything too. Boxes opened, items placed on shelves and in cabinets, packing materials removed. You skip the worst part of moving and go straight to enjoying your new place.

How We Pack Your Home

Room-by-Room System

We pack one room at a time, label every box with the room name and a brief description of contents, and number each box. You’ll get a packing inventory so you can find anything you need during the move or once you’re in your new home.

Kitchen & Fragile Items

The kitchen is where most damage happens during a move. Our packers individually wrap every glass, plate, bowl, and mug in packing paper. Glasses go in cell-divided dish pack boxes. Pots and pans are nested and padded. Knives get blade guards. Nothing goes in a box without proper protection.

Artwork, Mirrors & TVs

Flat items get packed in mirror boxes or custom-built cardboard sleeves with corner protectors. Valuable artwork gets extra padding. Flat-screen TVs are wrapped and boxed in appropriately-sized TV boxes or custom-wrapped if a box isn’t available.

Closets & Clothing

Hanging clothes go directly into wardrobe boxes so they stay on hangers and wrinkle-free. Folded clothes stay in dresser drawers when possible (we wrap the dresser with stretch wrap to keep drawers closed during transit). Shoes get boxed or bagged to keep them together.

Full-Home Packing

We pack everything in your home from top to bottom. Kitchen, bedrooms, bathrooms, living areas, garage — all of it. This is the hands-off option. You point, we pack. Most 3-4 bedroom homes can be fully packed in one day by our crew.

Partial Packing

You pack the easy stuff (clothes, books, everyday items) and we handle the hard stuff: kitchen, china, glassware, artwork, mirrors, electronics, and anything fragile or awkward. This is the most popular option because it saves you money while protecting the items most likely to break.

Fragile-Only Packing

Just need us to pack the breakables? We’ll handle your kitchen, glassware, artwork, mirrors, TVs, and other fragile items while you take care of the rest. Perfect if you’re a capable packer but want peace of mind on the delicate stuff.

Unpacking Service

After your move, our crew unpacks your boxes, places items on shelves and in cabinets, assembles what needs assembling, and hauls away all the packing materials. This service is available as an add-on to any move or as a standalone service.

Packing is typically quoted based on the size of your home and how much needs to be packed. A full-home pack for a 2-3 bedroom house usually runs $400 to $900 including all materials. Partial and fragile-only packing costs less. We can quote packing separately or bundle it with your move for a combined price.

Our professional crew can pack a 2-bedroom apartment in about 3-4 hours and a 3-4 bedroom house in 5-8 hours. Compare that to doing it yourself, which typically takes 20-30+ hours. Professional packing is significantly faster because we have the right materials, the right technique, and we do this every day.

Just make sure we have access to every room that needs packing. It helps to do a quick declutter beforehand so we’re not packing things you plan to throw away or donate. Beyond that, we handle everything.

Absolutely. Kitchen-only packing is one of our most popular options because it’s the room where most breakage occurs. We’ll pack the entire kitchen — dishes, glasses, pots, pans, small appliances, and pantry items — while you handle the rest of the house.

Yes. After your move, we’ll come back and unpack everything: boxes opened, items placed in cabinets and on shelves, boxes broken down, and all packing materials removed. Most clients have us unpack the kitchen and main living areas and handle the less critical rooms themselves
