Pricing & Estimates
The cost of hiring movers in Austin depends on a few things: the size of your home, how far you’re moving, and how much stuff you have. For a typical local move, most Austin residents spend somewhere between $400 and $1,500. A one-bedroom apartment is on the lower end, while a 4+ bedroom house will be higher. We charge by the hour for local moves, and our rate includes the truck, your moving crew, all basic equipment like dollies, blankets, and plastic wrap, plus fuel and mileage. The best way to get an accurate number is to call us for a free quote — we’ll ask a few questions and give you a straight answer, no surprises.
Everything you need for a stress-free move. Your quote includes your moving crew, the truck, fuel and mileage, moving blankets, dollies, plastic wrap, and basic tools for furniture disassembly and reassembly. We don’t hit you with hidden fees for things that should already be part of the service. If your move involves stairs, long carries from the door to the truck, or specialty items like a piano, we’ll let you know upfront so there are no surprises on moving day.
For local moves within the Austin area, we charge by the hour with a minimum. This keeps things fair — you only pay for the time your move actually takes. For long-distance moves, we provide a flat-rate quote based on the weight of your belongings and the distance. Either way, we’ll explain exactly how pricing works before you commit to anything. Just call us and we’ll walk you through it.
We believe in transparent pricing. Your hourly rate covers the crew, truck, equipment, and fuel. That said, there are a few situations that can affect the final cost: flights of stairs (if there’s no elevator), extra-long carries between your door and where the truck can park, or specialty items that require additional care. We always discuss these during your free estimate so you know exactly what to expect. No hidden fees, no pressure.
Just give us a call or fill out the quote form on this website. We’ll ask about the size of your home, your move date, and where you’re going. For most local moves, we can give you an accurate estimate over the phone in a few minutes. For larger or more complex moves, we may suggest a quick virtual or in-person walkthrough to make sure we get it right. Either way, estimates are always free and there’s never any obligation.
Booking & Scheduling
We recommend booking at least two to three weeks ahead, especially if you’re moving during the busy season (May through September). Weekends and end-of-month dates fill up fastest. That said, we understand that moves don’t always happen on a neat schedule. If you need to move quickly, give us a call — we do our best to accommodate short-notice moves whenever we can.
Yes, we do. We know that life throws curveballs, and sometimes you need movers today. While same-day availability depends on our schedule, we make every effort to squeeze in last-minute moves when there’s an opening. The sooner you call, the better your chances. If you’re in a pinch, don’t hesitate to reach out — we’ll tell you right away if we can make it work.
We keep it simple. If you need to cancel or reschedule, just let us know at least 48 hours before your move date and there’s no charge. We understand that plans change, and we’d rather work with you to find a better date than hold you to something that doesn’t work anymore.
We’re available seven days a week, including most holidays. Weekends are our busiest times, so booking early is a good idea if you need a Saturday or Sunday move. Our rates stay the same regardless of the day — no weekend surcharges.
Our crews typically start as early as 7:00 AM and can work into the evening depending on the job. We try to be flexible with scheduling because we know everyone’s situation is different. When you book, just let us know what time works best and we’ll do our best to match it.
Our Moving Services
We handle just about every kind of move you can think of. Local moves within Austin and the surrounding metro area are our bread and butter, but we also do full-service long-distance moves across Texas and beyond. Whether you’re moving out of a studio apartment, a four-bedroom house, or a commercial office space, we have the crew and equipment to get it done right. Our services include residential moving, apartment moving, commercial and office moving, packing and unpacking, loading and unloading, moving with storage, and piano moving.
Absolutely. If you’d rather skip the packing headache, our crew will pack everything for you using professional-grade materials. We also offer partial packing if you just need help with the tricky stuff like dishes, artwork, or electronics. On the other end, we can unpack your boxes and get you settled into your new place faster. A lot of our customers say packing services were the best money they spent on their entire move.
Yes. Pianos, safes, pool tables, large appliances — we move them all. Piano moving requires special equipment and extra care, and our crews are trained to handle uprights, baby grands, and full grand pianos safely. If you have a specialty item, let us know when you request your quote so we can send the right crew and equipment.
We bring all the essential moving supplies with us on every job: moving blankets, plastic wrap, dollies, hand trucks, and basic tools. If you need packing boxes, tape, or specialty materials like wardrobe boxes or dish packs, we can arrange those for you as well. Just let us know what you need when you book.
Yes, we offer short-term and long-term storage solutions for customers who need a place to keep their belongings between moves. Whether you’re waiting for your new place to be ready or just need some extra space, we can help you figure out the right storage option. Give us a call and we’ll walk you through what’s available.
Moving Day
A little prep goes a long way. Before our crew arrives, try to have everything boxed up and ready to go (unless you’ve booked our packing service). Clear walkways and doorways so the crew can move efficiently. Disconnect appliances like washers, dryers, and refrigerators ahead of time. Set aside any personal items or valuables you want to transport yourself, like jewelry, medications, or important documents. Make sure there’s a clear path from your front door to where the truck will park. And if you live in an apartment or condo, reserve the elevator and let the office know movers are coming.
It depends on the size of your home and how much you have. As a rough guide: a one-bedroom apartment usually takes 2 to 3 hours. A two to three-bedroom home runs about 4 to 6 hours. A larger home with four or more bedrooms can take 6 to 8+ hours. These are estimates — the actual time depends on factors like stairs, distance between the door and the truck, how much furniture needs to be disassembled, and how well things are packed. We’ll give you a more accurate time estimate when you book.
For local moves, yes — the same crew that loads your stuff at the old place will be the ones unloading at your new home. This matters because the crew who packed the truck knows exactly how everything fits and where it goes. For long-distance moves, the logistics may be slightly different, and we’ll explain the process when you book.
In most cases, yes. A little rain doesn’t stop us. We come prepared with plastic wrap and moving blankets to keep your belongings protected. We take extra precautions on wet days, including protecting floors with runners and wrapping furniture more thoroughly. In the rare case of severe weather like a thunderstorm with lightning or flooding, we may suggest rescheduling for everyone’s safety — but we’ll work with you to find the nearest available date.
For safety and legal reasons, there are a few things we can’t transport: hazardous materials like propane tanks, gasoline, paint thinner, or cleaning chemicals. We also can’t move perishable food, live plants over long distances, firearms, or ammunition. If you’re not sure about a specific item, just ask us — we’ll let you know and help you figure out an alternative.
Insurance & Protection
Yes, fully. Austin Moving Company is licensed by the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles and carries full liability insurance and workers’ compensation coverage. This means you’re protected, and so is our crew. We’re happy to provide proof of insurance on request — and we recommend that you always ask any mover for this before hiring them.
We take every precaution to prevent damage, and our track record shows it. But if something does happen, we have a straightforward claims process. Let your crew lead know on the spot, and we’ll work with you to resolve it quickly and fairly. We carry basic liability coverage on every move, and additional full-value protection is available if you want extra peace of mind.
Every move includes basic carrier liability coverage at no extra cost. This covers your belongings based on weight. If you want full-value protection, which covers the replacement value or repair cost of any damaged item, we offer that as an upgrade. We’ll explain both options when you book and help you decide what makes sense for your move.
Yes. Every member of our moving crew goes through a thorough background check before they join our team. We also conduct drug testing and verify employment history. When we send a crew to your home, we want you to feel completely comfortable with the people handling your belongings. This is one of the advantages of working with a smaller, family-owned company — we know every person on our team personally.
Payment
We accept all major credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover), debit cards, and certified checks. Payment is collected at the end of your move once everything has been delivered and you’re satisfied with the service.
Payment is due upon completion of your move. We don’t require a deposit to book in most cases. You pay after we’ve finished the job and you’ve confirmed everything looks good. Simple as that.
Tipping is always appreciated but never required. If you feel your crew did a great job, a common tip is between 15 and 20 percent of the total move cost, split among the crew members. You can also tip each mover individually — most customers give anywhere from $20 to $50 per mover for a standard local move. A cold bottle of water on a hot Austin day goes a long way too.
Service Areas
We serve the entire Austin metro area, including downtown Austin, North Austin, South Austin, East Austin, and West Austin. We also serve surrounding communities like Bee Cave, Buda, Georgetown, Pflugerville, Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander, Kyle, and more. If you’re within about 50 miles of Austin, we can probably help. Check our Areas We Serve page for the full list, or just give us a call.
Yes. We offer full-service long-distance moving across Texas and nationwide. Our long-distance service is truly full-service: we handle packing, loading, transport, unloading, and placement in your new home. We’re especially experienced with the Austin-to-California and California-to-Austin routes, since so many people are making that move right now. Call us for a free long-distance quote.
Absolutely. These are some of our most popular service areas. Whether you’re moving within South Austin, relocating from Bee Cave to downtown, or heading out to Georgetown, our crew knows these areas inside and out. We’re local — we know the neighborhoods, the tricky apartment complexes, the gated communities, and the best routes to get your belongings there safely and efficiently.
